We split into groups, so a lot of the photos I have are only of the children in one group. A parent sent some more. Thanks!

Week twelve was full of lots of learning and excitement with the Harvest Hike. The following quote from one of the students on Friday expresses how much fun students had: "This is like the best day ever!" Although we had a lot of fun on Friday, our week was packed with math, literacy, and science skills. We explored pumpkins and used the pumpkins that were sent in for comparing and ordering from biggest to smallest. We used our five senses to learn about and describe all parts of the pumpkin, letting students get their hands on the insides. We predicted whether they would sink or float using a prediction chart and tested our predictions. We even tasted delicious things that are made from pumpkins including pumpkin bread, pie, crackers, muffins and seeds. Other skills we learned/worked on this week include:
We just ended our Eric Carle Author Study. Student's have loved exploring the life and works of author/illustrator Eric Carle! Next week, we will begin our week long unit study all about pumpkins. These past two weeks we have focused on the following skills:
This week we continued learning about Nursery Rhymes. Students learned "Little Miss Muffet" "Little Bo Peep" and "Little Boy Blue." Students learned the vocabulary terms: tuffet, curds, whey, wags, meadow, and haystack. We compared, acted out, and found rhyming words in the nursery rhymes we learned this week. Next week, we will begin our Author Study on the wonderful author/illustrator Eric Carle. Skills we learned/reviewed this week include:
Students have loved checking out our new fall books in our library! Center Time- We added some changes to our centers for October and students have enjoyed costumes in the dramatic play, new sensory table materials (thanks for the help making the rice!), orange Play-doh in the art center, and a Pre-K Pumpkin Patch! Acting out "Little Miss Muffet" Celebrating Georgia Pre-K Week with guest reader Katha Stuart, Mr. Allison, and Mrs. Alhadeff Friday's Mystery Reader- A surprise visit from Kyle's grandparents. We loved the newest Pete the Cat book! Class News:
We sent home a permission slip in Friday folders for the North Metro Annual Harvest Hike at our school. Please return the permission slip and (if you choose) the voluntary donation of $5.00 for the pizza lunch. Students will be able to wear their costumes on the hike and participate in this fun event! This week we continued our Rhyme Time theme. We explored rhyming words and environmental print using the food boxes sent in from home with our Pre-K Cupboard. We squeezed as many of the boxes onto the "cupboard" and placed the rest in our dramatic play refrigerator for the students to play with during center time. Other skills we have worked on this week include:
Small Group skills we worked on this week include:
This week we will celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week by having special readers come into our classroom to read to students. We are excited about our special guests that include a Fulton County School Board member and our very own SAE Administration! We are turning our Dramatic Play Center into a Pumpkin Patch for the month of October! We have already started decorating and just know that students will love pretending to explore, pick out, and "purchase" pumpkins from Pre-K's Pumpkin Patch! At the end of the month we will decorate and then send the pumpkins home with the students. Please send one pumpkin to school with your child.
