Please let us know if a grandparent or special friend will not be able to make it so we can prepare the student. (Don't worry, we will be their "special friend" and ensure that they won't feel left out) Curriculum Night- Thank you for coming to Curriculum Night. We really are excited about all of the wonderful programs that Pre-K in Fulton County has to offer. Counting our way to the 100th day of school with Pete. This helps us with number recognition and recognizing and extending patterns. Students using colorful scarves to dance to the song "The World is a Rainbow" We opened our sensory table during Center Time this week. Students loved exploring the sand with their hands and tools. Kaitlyn reading our class book "Friend of Mine" during Center Time. We sing the words of this book to the tune of "Mary Had A Little Lamb". Small Groups Music with Ms. Amber. So exciting! We sang several songs and used rhythm sticks to chant "U-S-A" in honor of the Olympics. Students earned a Popsicle party on Friday. Students enjoyed them with their snack outside. We will have to brainstorm ideas for our next reward on Monday. We love recognizing Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn behavior! The reward came faster than expected! We may switch to smaller pom-poms ;)
I know that many of you must be curious as to what your children have been doing in Pre-K this week. Although we are still spending a lot of time learning routines, I was sure to get a lot of pictures this week to give you a look inside our classroom. It is very typical for children at this age to respond to the question, "What did you do today at school today?" with "I played in Blocks" or "I played with the babies." Four and five-year-olds tend to share the highlight of their day. That is why I will be using this blog as a newsletter to keep parents updated on concepts we are learning as well as important events. It can be hard to leave mom and dad, especially after a long summer or a break from school. We hope that your child has had an exciting first week and that they are even more excited to return on Monday! Our lessons will be theme based. During Curriculum Night, we will provide you with an understanding of the topics of study and the Georgia Early Learning and Development (GELDS) standards used in Pre-K. Weeks 1-3 are focused on the topic: My School/My Friends This past week students learned about:
Students practiced putting up book bags, lunches, water bottles, taking their snack out of their book bag and placing it in the snack bin, and then selecting an arrival activity. Arrival Activities Ms. Baptiste reading the story "Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon" to students. Students learned about feelings and being kind to others. Our daily schedule. Pete moves along to help us transition into different activities and see where we are in our day! Center Time exploration Walking in the hall on the way to lunch and eating at our table in the cafeteria. The Pre-K playground is under construction. Students have enjoyed playing on the blacktop and on field during Outdoor Activities time this week. When it was too wet to go outside one of the days this week, Ms. Dewberry gave students a Karate lesson! It feels good to take a rest when you have such a busy day! Our class LOVES Pete the Cat! We finished up the week reading the book "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons". Students practiced following instructions by completing three steps. 1. Count out 4 buttons. (M&M's) 2. Spread the frosting on the graham cracker. 3. Put the buttons on Pete's shirt. Their favorite step was Enjoy:) Happy birthday to our friend Adrian! He will celebrate his 4th birthday this weekend! We are excited to welcome a new friend to our class on Monday! Welcome, Luke!
It was a GREAT first day in Pre-K! Today we focused on learning the following procedures: lining up, locating the restroom, and properly washing our hands. Students had fun learning about the the Blocks and Home Living center in their new classroom. They enjoyed exploring the the different materials in these centers and learned how to clean up after Center Time. Students identified their names from name cards and introduced themselves to their classmates by passing a ball to a friend and introducing themselves.
