During week 26, students learned about weather types and what happens when the weather changes. Students learned all about about thunderstorm safety. Next week, we will focus on day and night. During small groups this week students learned about different community helper jobs, sight word practice and concepts of print, weather types, and practiced handwriting by copying weather words. We have received several compliments for our hallway behavior and students enjoyed playing on the big playground for their big kid behavior! Other skills we worked on this past week include:

Week 25 was all about Friendship and Dental Health. Students loved sharing their Valentine's Day boxes and distributing their valentines to classmates. We will begin a new unit focusing on the theme Earth and Sky on Tuesday. Last week we worked on the following skills:
Second Step Social Skills- Speaking up assertively Dental Health- How can we take care of our teeth? Identifying "healthy" and "unhealthy" foods Small Groups- Measuring using non-standard form (hearts) and comparing length, extending heart color patterns, sorting by color and graphing in a conversation heart math activity Phonological Awareness- Letter sound and isolating beginning sounds Alphabet Knowledge- Handwriting practice focusing on letters Gg, Hh, Ii, and Jj Math- 3-D shape review and subtraction Friendship- How to be a good friend This week students learned about the desert biome. Students learned that it is hot and dry and very different from the rain forest. We focused on the following vocabulary terms: sun, dry, sand, desert, rocks, cactus, nocturnal, and diurnal. We even built a rain forest in a jar! This week we worked on the following skills:
Second Step Social Skills- Saying the problem Book Study- "Two Cool Coyotes" We focused on the story elements "problem" in the story and the "feelings" of the characters throughout the story. In small groups this week, we focused on alphabet knowledge, writing skills, shape review, explored pictures of the cactus plant and used Play-Doh and tooth picks to create a our own cacti, and learned about several desert animals Oral Language- Sorting jungle and desert words and images Alphabet Knowledge- The teachers sang the ABC's in the incorrect order (students thought that was pretty funny) and the students constructed the alphabet back together in the right order. Math- Patterns (AB, ABC, AABB) and comparing objects and using terms "more" and "less" to describe quantities. Science- Taste-testing products from the rain forest (pineapple, mango, and coconut) On Friday, students enjoyed celebrating the 100th day of school by making hats, doing 100 exercises, and creating 100 Day necklaces using Fruit Loops. |
